Things to See and Do: Variety at all elevations
The Ausflugskarte Dornbirn (tourist card) is valid for four days and gives you the possibility to discover the city and its surroundings with free rides on the city bus and free admission to selected museums.
We recommend a visit to the Rolls-Royce Museum or the Inatura nature museum. Worthwhile destinations include the local Karren mountain high above the city, the Walser settlement of Ebnit or the ruggedly beautiful Rappenloch Canyon. Medieval Feldkirch or the Seebühne (lake arena) in Bregenz at the Lake Constance are also just a stone’s throw away. The Pfänder mountain above Bregenz offers unique views over Lake Constance and 240 peaks in the Alps.
The region’s varied landscape guarantees variety in your holiday. A special feature is the possibility of combining winter sports with city flair – after all, the ski areas in Bregenzerwald are not far from Dornbirn.
From March through October, a fleet of excursion boats crosses Lake Constance between Lindau, Friedrichshafen and the “flower island” of Mainau. St. Gallen, the de-facto capital of eastern Switzerland, and Chur, the country’s oldest city, also beckon with impressive historical sights.
