Founded at the end of the 19th century, Opatija has the longest tourism tradition among the seaside resorts on the Croatian Riviera. The convenient location, lush local vegetation and mild climate (winter average 7°C, summer average 21.9°C, high atmospheric pressure, constant air currents) are responsible for Opatija’s lasting popularity among young and old alike. 

Recent additions include a conference centre with 500 and 800 seats, 11 indoor pools, a number of wellness facilities, a summer stage with space for 2,000 spectators as well as various casinos and discos. The surroundings hold a wealth of possible leisure options in store, and trips to nearby Plitvice Lakes and Risnjak National Parks or even to Venice are possible without very much effort.
