About Katowice
Art and culture, blues and beer
Katowice has a wide range of cultural attractions on offer, including numerous museums, exhibition centres, galleries, cinemas and theatres. Highlights include music events from blues to hard rock to military music to the OFF Festival, one of the largest alternative music festivals in Europe.
A special treat is the Tyskie brewery in Tychy, around 15 km south of Katowice. The brewery is one of Europe’s oldest – it has been brewing beer since 1629 – and makes Poland’s most popular beer. Every year, Tyskie fills more than 5 million hectolitres of beer. A three-hour guided tour gives visitors an insight into the state-of-the-art facilities as well as historical buildings such as the old brewing room with its giant vats. The brewery museum is housed in a chapel built in the year 1902 and features a collection of beautiful bottles, glasses and kegs.
Things of beauty can also be had at Silesia City Center, one of Poland’s largest shopping centres, located just around the corner from the hotel.
